Obituary for Kathleen A. Bartus (Mayer)

Kathleen (Mayer) Bartus, devoted mother, adoring wife, community contributor, tireless volunteer, over-the-top Christmas lover and epic chocolate-chip-cookie maker passed away due to lung disease on Monday, July 1 2019 at Mercy Hospital with her children by her side. Predeceased by her husband Bob in October 2018. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary July 3rd. The consensus is that per usual, Bob was impatient to have her by his side. Kathy was born in Buffalo to Helen and Bob Mayer April 7, 1942, the first of six children. As a life-long resident of Angola, she was active in the community as President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of Business Women’s club and proud elected Evans Councilman. A short list of her volunteer work included Girl Scouts, SPCA, Miss Southern Erie County Pageant and more. Miraculously, she found the time and energy to raise three children who survive her: Jennifer (Bruce) Bartus, Kelly (Dan) Kal and Kevin (Nicole) Bartus. Loving Grandmother to Talon, Lesley, Samantha, and Hayley. Kathy loved to read and cook and was forever on the hunt for the loosest slots. She laughed at every opportunity and was unapologetic about her love for Frosty’s from Wendy’s and giant glasses of Moscato on ice. She is also survived by siblings Mick (Sue) Mayer, Jim (Ann) Mayer, Paul (Chris) Mayer, Joni (Brad) Link, Sue Mayer, sister-in-law Bunny Kaminski and brother-in-law Dick Dillon. Many nieces and nephews and cousins will miss her smiles and stories. The family will receive friends on Monday July 8th and Tuesday July 9th from 4-8PM at the (Hamburg Chapel) JOHN J. KACZOR FUNERAL HOME, INC. 5453 Southwestern Blvd (Corner of Rogers Rd & Rte 20, 646-5555). A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday morning at 10 am at Most Precious Blood Church in Angola, with a luncheon (Moscato included) following mass. (Everyone please assemble at the Church) Memorial donations can be sent to Camp Good Days and Special Times or Ten Lives Club Please share condolences or funny stories about Kathy at

Jen, Kevin, and Kelly, my heart goes out to you in your hours and days of grief. Scattered through the tears will come happy and warm memories of your mom and you will think fondly on her service to her community and especially your family. Your mom and dad work for the Angel's now along with Paul and my dad Jen. I only met your mom a few times and she was a lovely lady. Call me anytime and she will be fondly and lovingly be remembered. Sincerely Jen McDonald

Thoughts and prayers from the Vail family. One of my greatest memories of Kathy comes from working at TXRX. My father would stop to tell her one of his numerous jokes. Instead of a groan, Kathy would point to the door and yell "OUT".

The Barus family has my deepest condolences. Kathy was a favorite client of mine and she knew my Dad Gordon Found from years ago. She will me missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was very special to our agency, Community Concern of WNY. She served as a board member years ago. Recently your mom and I exchanged a great conversation. She wanted to get back to volunteering again as she once did. Prayers to you all. Jennifer Gunia, Coordinator, Senior Services at Community Concern
